Karnataka EWS Caste List
Karnataka EWS Caste List: Karnataka, a state located in the southern region of India, has a diverse population consisting of different ethnic and religious groups. The caste system, a traditional social hierarchy based on birth, plays a significant role in the society and culture of Karnataka. In recent years, the government has introduced a new category called the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) to provide benefits and opportunities to individuals and families who belong to economically weaker sections of society, regardless of their caste or religion.
- The EWS category is intended for individuals and families who have an annual income below a certain threshold, and who do not belong to any of the other reserved categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC). According to the recent government notification, the EWS category in Karnataka is intended for individuals and families whose annual income is less than Rs.8 Lakh per annum. The EWS category is eligible for reservation in education and government jobs, and also for other benefits such as housing, subsidies, and schemes.
- This new category of EWS is a positive step towards a more inclusive society, providing opportunities for people who are economically weaker but not necessarily from the traditionally marginalized castes. However, it is important to note that implementing this category alone may not be enough to tackle the issue of poverty and socio-economic inequality, and it should be implemented in conjunction with other measures such as education, skill development and job creation.
- It’s worth mentioning that the EWS category is not based on caste, and it’s open for any individual or family who meets the income criteria and not belong to any other reserved categories. The government may periodically review and update the income criteria and the other benefits available to the EWS category.
In conclusion, the introduction of the EWS category in Karnataka is a step towards a more inclusive society, providing opportunities for people from all backgrounds who are economically weaker. However, it’s important to note that it should be implemented in conjunction with other measures to tackle the issue of poverty and socio-economic inequality.

Karnataka Caste System
The caste system in Karnataka, like in other parts of India, is a traditional social hierarchy based on birth. The caste system is divided into four main categories: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. These categories are further divided into sub-castes and sub-groups.
- Brahmins, considered the highest caste, are traditionally involved in religious and scholarly pursuits. Kshatriyas, the warrior caste, traditionally held positions of power and prestige. Vaishyas, the merchant caste, were involved in business and trade. Shudras, the lowest caste, traditionally worked in manual labor.
- In addition to these four main categories, Karnataka also recognizes certain castes as Scheduled Castes (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Scheduled Castes are those that have been historically marginalized and face social and economic disadvantages. Other Backward Classes are those that also face social and economic disadvantages, but to a lesser extent than Scheduled Castes.
- The caste system in Karnataka, like in other parts of India, has been officially abolished by the government, but it continues to play a significant role in the society. Many people still choose their careers and partners based on their caste, and discrimination based on caste is still a prevalent issue in the state.
It is worth mentioning that the caste system is a complex and deeply ingrained aspect of Karnataka’s culture, and it will take time and continued effort to fully dismantle the system and create a truly equal society. It’s important to educate ourselves and others about the negative impacts of the caste system, and work towards a more inclusive and equal society for all.
